Integrating acupressure and reflexology with traditional massage is a way we can specifically address some of the side effects of cancer treatment with bodywork.  The intention is never to take the place of medical treatment being provided by an oncologist, but may be used in conjunction with treatment.

In Chinese medicine, the organs of the body are understood to have more functions than those we recognize with Western medicine.  Rather than just a bodily function, each organ is believed to have a spirit, likes and dislikes, and specific emotions.

Acupressure points are a means of accessing the organs through the body's meridians, which are channels or pathways of "Chi" (energy).  The feet also have all organs of the body represented, which is why we use reflexology.  A trained therapist can recognize and feel Chi, and will work with the acupressure points and reflex zones to bring balance to the body, while addressing specific symptoms and supporting the immune system.

When receiving bodywork that includes organ-focused work, expect the massage to feel slow, gentle, and attentive. This massage is best given in silence or with minimal talking to allow for focus and mindfulness.
